Some infrastructure projects quietly shape the long-term resilience of a city. The North City Arterial Main (NCAM) is 
one of them.

This critical trunkmain will strengthen water supply resilience across Dublin’s North City while supporting future housing and development.
ROQ partnered with GMC Utilities Group on this major urban infrastructure program.

ROQ is supporting GMC Utilities Group in delivering trenching, pipe installation and enabling works in a live urban environment.

Complex site with active traffic, existing buried services and restricted working windows

The challenge

Delivering major utility infrastructure in a live urban environment introduces a different level of operational complexity.

Works on the NCAM project required excavation, pipe installation and reinstatement while operating within an active city environment that included:

  • Live traffic corridors
  • Existing buried services and utilities
  • Residential and public interfaces
  • Restricted working windows and traffic-sensitive operations

 

Maintaining safe working zones, protecting surrounding infrastructure and managing sequencing across a constantly changing urban environment required careful planning and disciplined site coordination.

In projects like this, program certainty depends, not only on productivity, but on maintaining control of multiple moving parts.

The solution

ROQ supported the project with structured site operations and disciplined coordination across the project team.

Key works included:

  • Controlled trenching and excavation operations
  • Pipe laying and fusion welding
  • Installation of temporary works to maintain safe excavation zones in a restricted space
  • Managed back fill and surface reinstatement
  • Enabling works supporting ongoing infrastructure installation

 

Working alongside GMC Utilities Group, the team maintained stable work zones while coordinating with traffic management, surrounding services and public interfaces.

Sequencing and communication were critical to ensure installation activities could progress safely within the constraints of a busy urban environment.
